General council meeting
cuba 2023
From the 24th to the 28th of May of 2023, in Havana (Cuba), a General Council Meeting of the World Federation of Democratic Youth took place.
We reaffirmed the validity of our agreements made at the GC Meeting in Lebanon in December 2022 on the COVID-19 pandemic, the incurable contradictions of capitalism and crises, the reconfiguration of the world, the imperialist aggressions and the struggles of the youth and the peoples, and the current role of the anti-imperialist youth worldwide.
Thus, we were able to deepen the analysis of the crises, the reactionary upsurge and risks and potentials of the current situation, and what should be our actions and our struggle in this context.
In the framework of the General Council Meeting held in Havana in May 2023, also a Solidarity Mission with Cuba, its people, its youth and its Revolution took place. The Solidarity Mission was a fundamental milestone for the dozens of young people who participated in it. This Solidarity Mission allowed us to learn first-hand about the impact of the US blockade and the imperialist aggressions and interference against Cuba, especially among children and youth. Thus, we visited neighbourhoods, schools, universities, research centres and hospitals to learn first-hand how today the criminal
blockade against Cuba affects each and every facet of the daily life of any Cuban, especially the youth. We were also able to see how, despite the blockade, interference and aggressions against Cuba, today its people and youth continue to resist creatively to face these difficulties and continue to be an example of solidarity and struggle.
Because of this, within the framework of the Solidarity Mission, we march in support of Cuba and its Revolution, but we continue to assume that this internationalist solidarity with the island cannot end with our return to our homes. We must continue to stand up against the barbarism that capitalism in its imperialist stage represents, in solidarity with Cuba and with all the youth and peoples, until we finally build a world free of exploitation and any kind of oppression. Finally, we would like to thank the comrades of the Communist Youth Union (UJC) of Cuba, our member organisation and host of the meeting, for their militant work to carry out the General Council Meeting. This gratitude and internationalist solidarity with the Cuban people, youth and its Revolution is particularly relevant taking into account all the imperialist aggressions they suffer, particularly the unacceptable blockade by US imperialism.
